It has been a crazy and fun few weeks: lots of exams and my family came to visit!
Lots of thoughts lately. A few days ago at a Ukraine rally, I heard a Ukrainian-American journalist speak about being in Ukraine two days before the war started and his journey feeling to this Polish border.
A Chinese-American speaker urged us that no one is free until we are all free. She discussed how Hungary is still using natural gas from Russia and how we should flood the Hungarian agency in Boston with requests to stop. Her explanation was that the freedom for all that will come from doing this is so much more important than our current feelings of comfort and safety that come from using Russia’s natural gas. Even as I listen and see truth in this, I also recognize my own desire for comfort and safety and see how this stands in the way of equity and justice.
Last semester I wrote about the current system of policing in the US saying: “We have the opportunity to stand up for another’s humanity or to protect our own comfort. These cannot exist in unison.”
There is no binary though. In nursing, we say: you have to care for yourself before you can care for others. I am learning to be okay with living this balance of caring both for myself and for others and fighting for what I believe is right where I can.
Instead of sending a list of links today, I just wanted to give one that I found compelling: Booking Airbnbs in Ukraine.
THANK YOU for making the world a beautiful place 🤍
namaste,
Anna
